Turning Left and Right
The simplest way to control you view is simply to turn your Avatar, by using the arrows on the keyboard. Press the left arrow to turn your Avatar to the left, and the right arrow to turn to the right.

Zoom
To zoom the view in and out (without Mouse Look) you can:
*Move the scroll wheel forward and back
*Press CTL-0 to zoom in and CTL-8 to zoom out (and CTL-9 to return to the default viewing distance)

Mouse Look
Mouse Look refers to a set of ways to control the view by using the mouse. For instructions on how to use this feature, see: Mouse Look.

Reset Normal Viewing
When the camera is locked into a particular viewing mode, to bring it back to normal viewing, either:
*Hit Esc
*Or hit one of the keyboard arrows to start walking or to turn your Avatar to the right or left

View Pad
The View Pad at the top of the User Interface (just below the Menu Bar) can be used to adjust the user's view of the World, as follows:
*The circle on the left adjusts the user's point of view: from above, from below, or from side to side
*The vertical scale in the middle is a zoom (adjusts the view closer or farther away)
*The circle on the right moves the viewed World with respect to the user: up, down, right or left

View Menu
Numerous other viewing options are presented in the View Menu.

Lighting
The default lighting of the User Interface depends on period of the day, where one full Second Life Day lasts 4 hours (see Time).

During the "midnight" period, the User Interface screen will be very dark. However, you can easily change the period of the day according to your own choice, as follows:
*In the Menu Bar, open: World Menu > Environmental Settings
*Select the period of the day from among the following choices: Sunrise, Midday, Sunset, Midnight

For more advanced lighting controls, see Lighting.
